“The United Nations has launched a series of 20 animated TV ads to stop the spread of AIDS, featuring cartoon condoms named Shaft, Stretch and Dick
Available in 41 languages, the U.N. calls The Three Amigos ad campaign the “start of the world’s largest integrated behavior modification program.” (emphasis mine)
“The spaceship spot has the Amigos as astronauts on a rumbling launchpad inside a condom-shaped craft as it builds power to liftoff while a female voice, apparently mimicking orgasmic sounds, counts down. The launch suddenly aborts and the voice over at the end tells viewers: “No condom, no blastoff. Stop the spread of AIDS.”
The soccer ad says: “You just can’t score without a condom.”
“Ha Ha”, “cute”, whatevah!
So let me get this straight, a grown, rusty-behind man who is in the middle of gettin’ his groove on is somehow going to STOP and reach for his protection all because Shaft the condom told him to do so?
Now, here is my solution: Men, take yo’ stank penis and keep it in yo’ pants. Save it for one person–your wife!
It is news like this that gets me a little miffed because we live in a society that wants to treat men like women and women like men. If you want to stop the spread of AIDS, challenge men to remain abstinent. (I know it takes two to tango, but men should take lead on this issue)
We hear too much of the hopelessness of the spread of AIDS in Africa but not enough about the men that are spreading it. I was reading not too long ago about some of the villages in Sudan where militants go in and kill all of the men (including young boys), and then turn right around and rape all the women. These precious women in many cases are left with pregnancies and in many cases, venereal diseases like AIDS. AIDS ain’t exactly falling from the skies. Do we really think that people like these militants are going to stop all because of some cartoon?
Bottom line: If you want men to be irresponsible, soft, shiftless, etc., take the responsibilities that should be on our shoulders (me included) and make it into a “societal†problem. By nature, men respond best to a challenge. Unfortunately, we have allowed Xbox, Playstation, sports, etc. to fill up that space.
Abstinence is a process…read “Can a Black Man be Abstinent?”
