Charles Duelfer, the man that was appointed by the US to give a full assessment of the status of WMD in Iraq concluded yesterday that there was no sign of a recent WMD program since the early 1990′s. This came to now surprise to the general public being that there was already a growing consensus on both sides of the political spectrum that already came to this conclusion.
What the general media will not tell you is the rest of Duelfer’s report. He also concluded that a) The U.N. has in fact been profiting from the oil for food program, and b) read below:
The Duelfer report estimates that Saddam’s military-industrial budget was $8 million per year in 1996. By 2001, prior to the Sept. 11 terror attacks, the figure had ballooned to $350 million per year. The report credits the Oil-for-Food program for the jump, said the U.S. officials. (full article)
The question is why the dramatic increase of money over such a short period of time? True, the Bush administration did tell the nation that based on the evidence that was presented to them at the time from our intelligence as well as many other intelligence agencies around the world. But why is it that these findings regarding the oil-for-food program get pushed to the very back of the headlines? If Saddam did not have WMD, what was he saving up for, a new car?
All I know is since the war in Iraq, I have not seen a single car bomb here on US soil as well as many suspected terror cells have been busted. Remember, the war is against terrorism. Saddam is just one of many figureheads in this war.
Question: What was the main event that drew the United States into World War II?
Answer: Pearl Harbor
Why then would the United States make the decision to fight the Japanese as well when Hitler was the “real threat” at the time? The answer is that the United States saw that both Hitler and the Japanese emperor had the same thing in common: Fascism. What does Saddam and Osama have in common: Terrorism.
And this is the organization (The U.N.) that Kerry wants America to justify itself by passing a “global test”?
The truth is, I am very concerned that the responsibility of protecting this country could be in the hands of Kerry/Edwards. If the time came again (and it will) for them to press the “fire button“, these two will do what they do best as lawyers: broker a deal in which all parties can get paid (including them). Their records do not prove that they would do any different.
