The police are oftentimes the easy scapegoat for urban decay as folks like Jesse Jackson has jumped on just about every alleged case of police brutality against Blacks for years. However, some of the real sources of urban decay oftentimes are left off the ‘racism in America’ template which is why comments from folks like the woman in the following article usually get ignored.
Allies Turn To Enemies At Jackson News Conference
CHICAGO (WBBM) — It was a news conference that went astray: The Reverend Jesse Jackson called the media together to talk about more allegations of police brutality against residents of the Harold Ickes homes.
WBBM’s Steve Miller reports.
But it evolved into something else.
Usually at a news conference, everybody behind the podium is on the same page.
The lawyer who represents several residents of the Ickes homes, Tamara Holder, talked about allegations of police brutality.
But then, she lashed out at the CHA and the management of the Ickes homes.
“We have numerous building code violations. There are no fire extinguishers in the hallways, no fire alarms in the hallways, bars on the windows, elevators that don’t work.”
Leon Finney, who represents the Woodlawn Organization, the manager of the Ickes homes, took issue with Holder and then bristled at a reporter.
“I think I’ve got enough intelligence to answer your question. If a resident has a complaint, we do everything we can to address the complaint.”
Finney and the CHA say keeping the Ickes homes in repair depends on money which has not come from the federal government. (source)
Ahh yes! It’s the FEDERAL government’s fault.
