so, i’ve watched the dvd and read the book, and both include the fact that action is a necessary part of the process…it’s not just making a wish and waiting for it to happen.

so, the title of this post is a bit snarky…neither the dvd nor the book (nor the idea itself) takes a “blame the victim” stance on large tragedies. nor do they suggest that everything in your life is something that you visualized beforehand (that’s silly). my understanding of the ideology is that we attract certain circumstances in our lives whether consciously or otherwise. the other side of that is indeed the “action” aspect…dealing with intuition as well as physical action.

and it also discusses what we gain from tragedy and poor circumstances…

so, it doesn’t give us the answer to the almighty “why me” question, but it offers some insight. i personally very much enjoyed the dvd/book and the changes it has helped me make. it’s not a cure-all to anything. no one thing in this life is (in my humble opinion). i take from it what i wish to use (just as i, and many others) choose to do with religion.

The message of the secret is not a new one. It is simply a repackaged version of karma. Think about it Duane. You have that friend that is always saying the white man is keeping us down, I can’t get ahead in my job because of the white man. Stop for a second and think about his life. Is he truly a hard worker, is he a go getter or is he a slacker blaming things on the white man. That is kinda how the secret works. If you say I am worthy, I deserve and then you go out there with a positive attitude then you are more capable of achieving. I agree with rhythm the title of the post was a bit much.

I completely agree with the fact that this “secret” is nothing new and it is based on the whole idea of karma. But again, “karma” falls flat on its face when you think about those in our society who have worked hard and kind to folks and are still dirt poor. It is also valid to apply this to folks to certain parts of the world (like Darfur) where they have received “bad karma” for doing nothing. Tell that to the women and children who have been raped! Again, this is from the Oprah site:

This means that if you are sending out the same negative energy over an over—whether thoughts or feelings—you will attract like energy back to you. James says that when bad things happen people might ask, “Oh, God, why me?” “Because it is you,” he says.”

This reminds me of those commercials where the guy tells you that he knows the secret on becoming wealthy. Now do you REALLY believe that if it was a secret that he would be on TV telling the world about it?

well, just like anything else, it ain’t for everybody. i tell skeptics all the time, i’m not here to convince you of it’s validity. and i don’t try to. it works for me, and i choose to use it.

and it’s not a “secret” in terms of exclusivity. it’s more like a “key.” and one of the main differences between what you’re calling “karma” and the book calls “the law of attraction” is that people have given the word “karma” a negative connotation, as in a “punishment,” if you will. we’re not implying that a “dirt poor” person has done something “wrong” to bring poverty into his/her life. it’s simply saying that his/her thoughts and actions have perpetuated this poverty. there’s a big difference between the poor person who convinces him/herself (in spite of current circumstances) that he/she will overcome and the poor person who expects negativity and thus continues to create it. it’s not conscious, but it’s real.

and the rest you would have to watch/read for yourself. again, i’m not selling it. all i know is what works for me.
