(earthtimes.org) PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, March 2 The U.S. Coast Guard said Friday it had called off its search for 49 missing passengers following a shipwreck off the coast of Haiti.

Two people who were rescued by an American yacht said 54 more people were onboard the ship that sank Wednesday. The Coast Guard later recovered five bodies.

The ship reportedly sank when a fire broke out about 35 miles offshore. (source)
