Basic theme of his recent speech at Hampton University: “It’s all Bush’s fault”!

(AP) Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said Tuesday that the Bush administration has done nothing to defuse a “quiet riot” among blacks that threatens to erupt just as riots in Los Angeles did 15 years ago.

The first-term Illinois senator said that with black people from New Orleans and the Gulf Coast still displaced 20 months after Hurricane Katrina, frustration and resentments are building explosively as they did before the 1992 riots.

“This administration was colorblind in its incompetence,” Obama said at a conference of black clergy, “but the poverty and the hopelessness was there long before the hurricane.

“All the hurricane did was to pull the curtain back for all the world to see,” he said.

Okay, where to begin on this one? For starters, fact that he and other presidential candidates have to base their speeches to Black folks on emotional events like riots, Jim Crow and slavery show two things: A: It doesn’t take much to win the Black vote if you are a Democrat and B. These type of topics provide a good cover for your own incompetence.

While Obama was blasting away the Bush administration for not addressing the “quiet riot” among Blacks in cases such as the post LA riots, he left out one thing: HIS OWN PARTY HAD BEEN IN CHARGE IN THAT CITY FOR YEARS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE RIOTS!!! And guess what? Most of them were Black Democrats.

But somehow it is still Bush’s fault for not doing the job he claims his own party should have done.

And while he was blasting away the Bush administration for its incompetence during post Katrina, he also left out the fact that once again that BLACK DEMOCRATS HAD BEEN IN CHARGE OF THAT CITY FOR YEARS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE STORM!!!

If you want some of the details of how both of these cities have been governed under Democratic leadership, just do a search on this site under Los Angeles and New Orleans. I have talked about both cities quiet extensively on this site and after awhile it gets somewhat boring repeating the same thing.

But of course he would not know anything about LOCAL politics because according to a recent press conference, he had trouble addressing the local politics in his own state.

(msnbc–Mark Murray) After addressing Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition conference earlier today, Obama was bombarded by the media with a variety of questions. Some local reporters were left disappointed. He was asked a question concerning an issue being considered by the Illinois state legislature (where he got his start in politics), and Obama responded that he did not know. “I haven’t been following the negotiations closely enough to know what’s taking place.” He then made the issue national, “I do know that the state of Illinois, like states across the country, are seeing a crunch when it comes to education funding [and] continue to struggle with funding health care. New sources of money are needed.” When asked about a local issue in Springfield, IL, Obama responded, “I apologize guys, but I really have not followed closely what’s been happening in Springfield. I’ve had a little bit of other stuff to do.” A reporter in the background complained, “The senator of Illinois should know what’s going on … I bet [Sen.] Durbin knows … [Obama's] still the senator of Illinois.” (more…)

Now when I first read this second article, I first decided to dismiss it as a low-level cheap shot because after all, this guy (Obama) is running for president and it would be understandable if he was out of touch with some of the local issues in his state. But since Obama has the gall to blame LOCAL problems that happened years ago on the current president–all bets are off.

In the end, Obama is a party-line politician trying to pass off as a “bridge builder”.

So while many Black folks from coast to coast have been asking themselves “deep” questions about Obama like “Is he Black enough?” instead of his record on the issues, the harsh reality is that for many Sen. Biden was on the money when he referred to Obama as “Clean”. “Clean” as in acceptable for White folks–forget providing real solutions to some of the issues that have been ailing the Black community (bad schools, corrupt local leadership, questionable police departments, etc.), but someone who does not resemble a greasy reverend who has the potential of embarrassing himself and Black folks all over America.

And what was the reaction from Black folks who heard his latest speech?

“Obama’s criticism of Bush prompted ovation after ovation from the nearly 8,000 people gathered in Hampton University’s Convocation Center…” (more…)

Just out of curiosity I wonder if Obama resorted to recalling the Holocaust when he was courting the Jewish vote or did he give them more substance to think about?

Yep, after all these years “anger” mixed with Biblical references still work for the Democratic party when courting the Black vote. I’m amazed.
