MIB..

If you have a better opinion on how to tackle the problems in New orleans, why don't you organize something like what your mentioning or tell the people directly "Face to face" what needs to be done instead of hiding behind your keyboard and pounding your thoughts away in your safe cove somewhere probably outside of New Orleans.

The problem with marches these days is that they tend to fall into the mindset "if we reached just one, then it was worth it". Unfortunately, this is 99% symbolism and 1% hope.

You are right, there has to be a systematic approach to this problem.

Instead of marching on city hall, the folks attending the rally would be more productive directly engaging those in their neighborhoods most likely to commit crime with a combination of mentoring, education/job training, and employment. Then, partnerships with the city, county, and state economic development agencies, and NGOs (like Jim Brown's Amer-I-Can) can be used to maximum effect.

It's not like there's a shortage of work to be done in New Orleans and the gulf region.

New Orleans is suffering from the same thing most other major cities are suffering from. Given most residents have not gone back to New Orleans and crime is still high is unfortunate. Memphis, TN, just had its eighth homicide last night.
