I am saying “The Black church” , but this is really about the Church at large.

Thank you to all that commented and to the rest of you that took the time to read the posting I did yesterday on the church.

Here on the home front, it seems like everyone I know is either fighting a cold/flu. Of course I have been taking vitamins and herbal remedies as though it was crack. Fortunately, it appears that I did not catch anything, but my body has been fighting it for the past few days. Needless to say this has made me extremely tired (this is why the activity on this site has been a little slow these past few days).

The one thing you will notice in this ongoing discussion will be that I will tend to go waaaaaay back in history at times. It may seem a little boring to some, but it is very important for us to understand the many problems that plague the church today.

As I said before, I could care less about what bishop is sleeping with whom. That does very little to provoke us to come up with real solutions to these real problems in the church. This may sound a little corny, but we need to kinda see ourselves as “doctors” when discussing this issue. A good doctor will not give a person a band-aid if they have cancer. Instead, he will consider ALL of the factors (family history, diet, etc.) so that he is better informed on how to treat the patient.

Some of the things that immediately come to mind as future points of discussion are:

> The origins of a bishop.

>The biblical view on homosexuality and is the church really adhering to what God has already said in His word.

>Tithes and Offerings

>Word of Faith

>The prophetic

>WWJVF – Who would Jesus vote for?

> and hopefully much, much more.

Of course all of you are more than welcome to submit a piece to be posted on this site. Please seriously consider doing this as your experience is important for all of us to hear.

The reason why I want to take the time to address church issues is because for too long, we as black Americans have always considered the church to be the backbone of the community, however, too few of us are willing to address the problems that we see that are crippling the bride of Christ. What many black pastors today do not realize is that as they involve themselves more and more in the world of politics, the scrutiny of them and their ministries will greatly increase. I want our discussion to be one which is more constructive instead of destructive in nature.

I look forward to hearing from many of you on this very important topic that is very key for the black community and the nation at large.

Duane
