“US Attorney Steve Biskupic is now on the trail of $300,000 of money that was intended for helping Milwaukee’s disadvantaged. Instead, it was given to several people that were not entitled to receive this money, including $60,000 each to former Acting Mayor Marvin Pratt and former local President of the NAACP, Felmers Chaney.
The money comes from a $16.5 million settlement with American Family Insurance, the case was about American Family’s discrimination against Milwaukee residents that were refused coverage because of where they lived. After the disbursement of the money to those in the law suit, the remaining money was put into a trust fund, and they were to disburse this money among 20 approved agencies, to be used to “support the African American community†in Milwaukee.
The trustee, former Milwaukee County Circuit judge Harold B. Jackson has been paying non-authorized individuals large sums of money from this trust, aside from Marvin Pratt and Felmers Chaney, three others were given $60,000 and one $65,000. He also wrote himself a $25,000 check and four others, including Dianne Pratt (the former Mayor’s wife) received checks for $5,000 each.” (more…)
