From New York Post:

Republican sources identified the key holdouts as 87-year-old Robert Byrd of West Virginia, along with Ted Kennedy and John Kerry, both of Massachusetts.

Byrd, a former Ku Klux Klan member, has been one of the most vocal critics of Bush. Rice would be the first black woman to serve as secretary of state.

(Robert) Byrd’s spokesman, Tom Gavin, said the delay was “not intended as any slight to Dr. Rice” and said that before voting, the full Senate should “have a chance to read the transcripts” of her confirmation hearing. (more…)

My opinion: A person’s past is a person’s past…period! However, we all know that the general press loves to dig in a person’s past for one reason–a good story.

Black media definitely is no exception to this rule of thumb in the media. Anybody that has demonstrated just a hint of racism um-teen years ago is blasted in the Black press, rap songs, comedy routines, etc. (Remember David Duke??).

I scoured all the major black media sites that I could think of and could not find one reference to Robert Byrd (let alone his racist past). Here is the most perfect time for black media to exploit this strange coincidence that a former Klansman would block the confirmation of the nation’s first black female Secretary of State, and they have turned a blind eye.

Well, at least BlackAmericaWeb.com is on the job. One of their top headlines today reads:

“NAACP Joins Federal Bias Lawsuits Against Waffle House Chain”

So now the affairs of Waffle house have become more important than the affairs of The White House.

Michelle Malkin also chimes in:

“And if you don’t think that’s exactly how CBS and the rest of the MSM would have played the story if Byrd were a Republican and Rice a Democratic nominee, I have some genuine Bush National Guard documents to sell you. “

Booker Rising’s input:

So a former Ku Klux Klan leader (Byrd) leads the charge. Poor move.
