Duane,

Over the past 10 years, I have gone from being a college student actively considering joining the NAACP, to not taking seriously anyone associated with the org as of late. The reason why Bond was at FSU, (my old rival from the CIAA conference before Hampton went to the MEAC), is to get new members. The org is in need of cash...bad. The only dedicated members are the ones who first joined in the 60's - early 80's. As Blacks move up the food chain, the need for a self appointed spokesman diminishes. Not to say we don't need an positive organized advocate for change, although I'm not sure if that or white liberal establishment leashed and toothless pit bull describes the NAACP

Mfume righted the ship for a minute because his efforts were more on grassroots issues, as well as not being overtly partisan for the Dems. The James Byrd campaign commercial in 2000 marked the beginning of the end. Since, Bush has been compared to Jefferson Davis (benign actually), Hitler, Bull Connor, Satan, and the Klan. And while it stirs the pot for the those of us who are economically and socially isolated from the rest of society, the rest of us grow apathetic or embarrassed. The NAACP is now officially no different than NOW, Code Pink, the Sierra Club, Move On.org , etc. It's only distinguishing difference is it was founded on principles of legitimate issues of social disparity.

I think the allicance with pro-abortionists is both ECONOMICAL and political. Liberals will only give to orgs that are PRO-ABORTION first, and hate Republicans second. While Black give money, we don't give like white liberals. They actually live and die by that crap thay talk. We may talk ebonics and prach like poor share croppers, but much of the Black elite lives like the Republicans they villify. Mink coats, limos, country clubs and all.

The NAACP is the only legitimate liberal org in the sense racism still exists, even if not legally or systematically. So Bond is on the college "shill for new flow of cash...I mean :) members tour", and doing some wetwork for the liberal establishment in an election year. After the election, the white liberal establisment will put Bonds, the NAACP, the CBC, et. al back on the shelf until the next election.

Mark,

For starters, thanks for stopping by.

(sigh)

I cannot begin to tell you the amount of times that I railed against Julian Bond and others of the Fellowship of the Handout. If you do a little poking around this site, I think my feelings about him and his organization are quite clear.

Lately, I have come to realize that as long as I continue to talk about, headline, provide links, etc. to Bond and his ilk, I do nothing more than further empower them.

I personally believe (and see) that there is a growing amount of folks in the Black community that see Bond as that one millitant Uncle we all have in our families that constantly wants you to re-live the old days with him when he used to be the man back on campus (now he sells bootleg CDs/DVDs, black Jesus T-shirts, and barbeque at the corner of Washington and MLK or something).

Anyway, the more Bond speaks, the further he isolates himself from reasonable black Americans who although may not agree with Bush, they certainly do no see the world his (Bond's) way either. The fact that he is now comparing the Republican party to the Nazis (a comparison that I wouldn't even use for Democrats) shows just how far he is willing to go to legitimize himself as a "black leader"...

...as if we needed one.
