Unfortunately, people still have their basic personalities...regardless of their religious beliefs. She may have been like that even if she wasn't in church. Just shine her on.

There's really nothing new under the sun. All one has to do is read the Scriptures (both Old Testament and New Testament) to figure that one out. So why this outrage? As long as humans are human with sinful natures, this sort of thing will continue. However, just because there are birds flying overhead, it doesn't mean you have to allow it to make a nest in your hair. Thing is, people need to look at themselves and make sure they are following God's laws and not be so wrapped in office/church politics. You're better off praying for those ministers and not judging them or anyone else (or spreading gossip about them which may be nothing but a way for jealous people and detractors to take these folks down a peg or two). Also, people need to stop using their behavior as as excuse to not have to be accountable to God themselves. My faith doesn't lie in a preacher, it lies in God.

Duane, I really enjoyed reading your article. I often think about the hypocrisy in the church and how it effects those of us who are geniunely looking to work for God. I find myself in a situation where "church folk" judge you when you go through a trial. I had the once first lady of the church tell me that if she was going through what I was going through, that she would be stronger because she is a stronger christian. Her son took over the ministry after her husband died, and I really looked up to her-until I realized that because I had weak moments, and because I cried, I (in her opinion) was not a strong believer. She often refers to herself as the strongest person in the ministry (spiritually). I have struggled to look beyond her words and I have thought hard about leaving this ministry. One of her daughters (who at one point was a best friend of mine), stopped really talking with me, but never fails to contact my husband via text. These are the leaders in the church and they make sure that members remember to stay in their place. I believe the Pastor has different views, but this is his family and I wonder if he'd go against them to push others out into ministry. What do you think about this?

You are back!

One day I go to your blog and you are gone....

I thought your server was down, I try many times over the next weeks and it is clear you had closed down for business.

I never took you off my blog roll though, I had faith. :-)

And now here you are again, welcome back we missed ya.

I used to work on program where one of the members was a "first lady."

We were talking a bit about the life of a man I knew who was ordained as a pastor and how his family life changed to the point of the church and flock taking priority over the family.

She gave me a SMALL peak into what she lives day to day and I could see how that could put a huge strain on the family. I understood then why some "first ladies" have an "attitude."

Well well now. I have a good friend that is currently engaged in an affair with a married preacher. They have gone so far as to have sex in his home. There was a good article in Essence over the summer talking about church groupies. These men are held in such high regard that at times many woman come to worship them in a sense. Chris Rock said it best "... a man is as faithful as his options..." One would think that these pastors would heed the word of the good book "... all that is done in the dark will come to light..." Far too often we put people on a pedestal because of their abilities and not their character. We have got to begin to look beyond the smoke and mirrors.
