In recent years rap music has developed a reputation of being brutally honest, violent, and misogynistic. If you are a fan of rap the corner stone of hip-hop, then you are probably very familiar with rap music’s mainstream advertisements known as music videos. Some may want to refer to these extravagant images and luxurious forms of advertisement as eye candy. Leaving the inevitable question remaining, who is feeding on this high calorie diet of cynical media?
Could it be the reported over 70 % white suburban youth purchases reported by The Boston Globe? Perhaps it is the reported youth women whom compromise over 54% of all urban music purchases in recent years. Recent survey and research has discovered that many young women support the very market that degrades the dignity of women.
While being disrespected and demoralized within many of the lyrics and music videos, by way of it’s recording artist, executive producers, choreographers, and music video directors. Is it possible mainstream’s creative and executive authorizes have meticulously orchestrated these scandalous shenanigans?
Is it true when Tupac Shakur makes the statement in his song When thugs cry “We went from brothas and sistas to n#!@as and bitches.â€Â
Or are we just stuck inside a paradox of commercialized calamity? (more…)
