Last evening I took some time to look at the latest LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District) school board meeting. Based on the programing grid I was turning on Curious George for my daughter. Instead I was greeted by a young Black male who was lecturing the school board for being too harsh on young Black kids when issuing out school suspensions (A topic I just wrote about last week). He was then followed by several other Black individuals who proceeded to slam the school board for its insensitivity to the needs of people of color. . Each three minute ‘tellin’ it like it is‘ segment was followed by thunderous applause.
Like many large city public school systems, LAUSD tends to be very Liberal in its approach when handling the education of their students. Social promotion of students who can barely read has become the norm. When students decided to walk out last year in protest of immigration reform, buses were provided for them to come back to school. People of color are always given some visible post with power within the district. Illegals who can barely speak English are given free education oftentimes at the expense of legal students. Kids whose parents seemingly could care less about teaching them about sex are provided with sex education and the condoms when needed for free. Despite all of these things and more, if you would have heard these individuals at the mike, you would have thought that the school district was still stuck in the Jim Crow era.
I think Michael Jackson said it best in the movie The Wiz: You can’t win.
