Below are just a sampling of groups that have used the legacy of the civil rights movement to forward their own agenda:

NAMBLA (North American Man/Boy Love Association)

“NAMBLA’s goal is to end the extreme oppression* of men and boys in mutually consensual relationships …

NAMBLA is a political, civil rights, and educational organization. We provide factual information and help educate society about the positive and beneficial nature of man/boy love.”

*notice they use the hot button word “oppression” to align themselves with the civil rights movement. Emphasis mine

National Gay and Lesbian Task Force

“Founded in 1973, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force was the first national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights and advocacy organization and remains the movement’s leading voice for freedom, justice, and equality. ”

Don’t Base Civil Rights on Behavior, Group Warns

By Susan Jones

The Illinois House on Tuesday passed a bill banning discrimination against homosexuals and transgender people, with a dozen Republicans joining Democrats in approving the bill.

Among other things, LaBarbera said, the legislation would:

– create special legal protections for *cross-dressers and transsexuals, because its definition of “sexual orientation” includes “gender-related identity.” (Transgenders identify as members of the opposite sex.) (more…)

*So now a person that chooses to cross dress is the same as a person of color.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)

“You know why I support groups like PeTA and the Humane Society? The same reason I would’ve been fighting for the Civil Rights of Black people in the 60s.” (comment from the weblog The Talent Show) (also read my commentary entitled: “Black Slavery and a Bucket of Chicken“)

The Abortion Movement

“For the Republicans, the attack on abortion rights went along with a broader assault on rights for women, Blacks, workers and the poor–from attempts to overturn affirmative action to the gutting of welfare and other social services“. (Socialist Worker Online) – emphasis mine.

Atheism

“The gay community, women, African Americans, and other minority groups have learned the importance of civil rights activism, and of electing their own to political office. Since the mood of the country is so antagonistic toward atheists, our own quest to secure and preserve equality before the law is clearly a civil rights issue. As such, just like any other unjustly despised minority, we must learn how to elect a number of our own to the halls of power.”

(from the article: “Atheism is Indeed A Civil Rights Issue” by Eddie Tabash)

I do not recall ever hearing an atheist being denied the right to vote, or forced to drink at a separate water fountain.

By aligning ourselves with groups like the ACLU and other liberal organizations, we have in effect watered down all the sacrifices of our forefathers who fought for the right to be free from the bondages of racism. Liberalism has in effect highjacked the vehicle of the civil rights movement of the 1960′s that was destined for total equality of Black people and has steered it into a direction not intended by our forefathers. The funny thing is that while Black Liberals believe that they are in control of this vehicle, it is White Liberalism (once again, please read: Tarzan: The father of white liberalism) that has the remote control.
