In new blazers, the inaugural class of the Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men, (chicagodefender.com) Englewood Campus began the school year just as they entered the summer – by walking across the stage to thunderous applause.

 

For students at the new charter school, the blazers is a part of their uniform, a public acknowledgement of their willingness to meet the expectations the school’s administration has set for them.

 

In their temporary home at the Lindbloom Academy for Math and Science, 150 young Black men will begin their journey through high school as Chicago Public Schools’ first single-gender school. (more…)
