Come on, you hear and see the “conversation now”. Many consider it offensive when “we” put it out there.

To be honest with you, it has come to the point where you reap what you sow. When we continue to call each other the n-word, then we shouldn’t be too surprised that other people are calling us that, too! When we glorify the “thug life,” as evidenced of our wholesale embrace of “Hustle & Flow” and it’s Oscar-winning song “It’s Hard Out Here for A Pimp,” then we shouldn’t be too surprised when others decide to embrace it along with us. I don’t recall the NAACP coming out against the movie or the subsequent Oscar nomination or gold statue for that blatantly offensive song.

I just have to laugh when I see stories like this. I hope those kids at Baylor had some fun at their little party. I couldn’t care less, because it’s not like they made it up on their own, we gave them the ammunition to have fun at our expense… so be it!

My only issue is that blacks are not the pimps and hustlers of the world. The executives at Eron now they were “Big Pimpin” Dick Chaney shooting a friend and waiting 48 hours to get the story out now that is hustling. As far as the Hustle and Flo comment. Please get real. No one had a problem when Denzel was being a dirty cop grabbing his privates and using the n- word and won an Oscar. If those kids at Baylor want to have a party and dress in black face then so be it. The last thing we as a people have time to be worried about is a group of privileged white kids and what they do when they get drunk.

Right on Saudia, such as the Mafia/organized crime that is romanticized by Hollywood.

Let me put this out here again, with a slight word addition:

“We”????

I did not “put” any of these stereotypes “out there.” I, and most of the Black people I know spend a lot of our energy trying to work against these stereotypes.

Nor do I use the “n-word.”

The people who “put” these stereotypical representations “out there” are only a handful of the millions of Black people living in the U.S.; and they are aided and abetted in this by an overwhelmingly white entertainment industry.

Ahh, so the handful of blacks (according to you) that do put out these stereotypes–its really the white establishment’s power that enables them.

Until there is a massive movement within our community to dispell these images BY US, the “handful” is a lot bigger than you want to believe.
