Black Media Watch: Bush Is Putting Blacks in Prison So That He Can Win

The institute examined prison spending in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington (state), West Virginia and Wisconsin. Considered neither solidly Republican nor Democratic, those 17 swing states will be pivotal in whether Republican President George W. Bush is re-elected or whether his Democratic challenger, Sen. John F. Kerry of Massachusetts, wins in November.
Again, here is a case where a clearly coincidental situation is being twisted to make you as the reader think that there is some type of conspiracy to shut ONLY BLACKS out of the election. If the truth be told, we (African-Americans) lead the prison population NATIONWIDE, not just the key battleground states.
It is no secret that our criminal justice system is screwed up. There is no doubt in my mind that there are cases out there where African-Americans are unjustly imprisoned for crimes they did not commit. But people, let’s just face reality for a moment. There are also many blacks that are in prison that deserve their punishment. There is no system out there that is making young African-American boys pull the trigger on each other. To suggest such a thing is to say that we as a people are so stupid that we lack all personal restraint from our own temper.
This is just another attempt by OUR press to place ALL the blame of black imprisonment on the government. For the African-Americans that are in prison for crimes they did not commit, let’s storm the gates of the American justice system to ensure that they get due process. For the ones that deserve their punishment, visit them, teach them, counsel them, and for heaven’s sake, pray that they get fully rehabilitated. In the meantime, don’t let them out!
