Feb. 14 (Bloomberg) — MovieBeam Inc., backed by Walt Disney Co., is taking on video-rental stores with a system that transmits the latest movies to homes for as little as $1.99 each.
The company begins selling the service today in 29 U.S. cities. Burbank, California-based MovieBeam is charging $199 for a television set-top box that holds 100 films, a startup fee of $30 and $1.99 to $4.99 per rental. The company will add 10 new movies a week to the boxes. All but one major studio is participating. (more…)
