ZZ68A7F887 Atlanta gets smashed

Tornadoes Tear Through Downtown Atlanta

Some year back when I was unmarried and living in Atlanta, I experienced my first near miss of a tornado.

While preparing for a conference at the Doubletree hotel (now the Westin) in the Perimeter area one night, the wind suddenly picked up like you would not believe. We were in the basement of this hotel and it still sounded like the roof was going to crack above us. As soon as the wind died down a little bit, I decided to make my way home not realizing later that I was just about 5 miles or so behind the tornado. This twister had interestingly enough made its path of destruction down Windy Hill road, knocking down trees, power lines and eventually ending up at strip mall where it was completely destroyed (my favorite barbershop was in that mall).

The sound of that wind is something I will never forget.

Just a quick trip down memory lane. Anyway, glad to hear that the casualty count was low.
