This is a picture of my cousin, Trevor. Right now, he is somewhere in Iraq fighting for the liberation of millions of people that he has never met.
Trevor made the decision around the beginning of the war to enlist. No one came to rural, southern home to “trick” him into joining the armed services. He made the decision on his own. When his leadership told him that he would be going to Iraq to join the rest of his platoon, he told his mom that he knew that going to Iraq was a strong possibility, however, he was still willing to go. I forgot to mention that Trevor joined the military so that he could have his college education finances covered. Nevertheless, he knew beforehand that joining the military was more than just free money. Yet he was still more than willing to fight for this nation.
This, like many other stories out there, flies in the face of all those critics who would say that inner-city/rural African-Americans are being lured and tricked on joining the military.
You will find more criticism from the black press regarding the war than showing overwhelming support for the troops that are over there. The Black Informant wants to counter that trend! If you know of a African-American soldier that is in Iraq, or is on his/her way over there, please send me their picture. My desire is to create a web page that highlights all of our brave black knights that are fighting for us. The page would just be a small picture with first name and e-mail address so that we can send them a note of support.
This is long overdue, but not too late. Send your picture by clicking on the Contact link to the right
