With some time on my hand, out of curiosity I did an extensive Google image search on homicide victim’s families in the Black community. I also did a search on Black homicide victims (not the actual crime scene picture, just the images of the person before they became a victim). I even did a search on Black mothers crying at the funeral of their child due to street violence. Would you believe I found pages of pornographic pictures of Black women committing sex acts, but no pictures of women mourning over the loss of their child?

On the other hand, do a search on “racism” or “lynching” and of course you are greeted with pages and pages of results.

I think that this is an observation worth mentioning because there are hundreds of mothers who mourn each week over the loss of their child due to street violence. These images are important to document for the sake of future generations so that they do not repeat the same mistakes. We cannot depend on Google to fully document our history.
