Commentator Roland Martin is at it again with his begging for Obama to take charge of the situation. It was last year when Martin was begging Obama to “go gansta on the GOP”. Now he back to begging for Obama to take charge again.
“If Obama is about showing a renewed toughness with Congress, this is where it starts. It’s time for him to use the power of the presidency and assert himself. Forget “No Drama Obama.” Chuck out the window the cool, cautious demeanor his staff loves to trumpet. Maybe going a little rogue will help revitalize his presidency, in which he’s increasingly seen as leading from behind.”
He continues…
“Mr. President, its time you show who is boss. If Boehner wants to reject the date you have presented, fine. But if this president is tired of being disrespected and forced to do things on the terms of his critics, he should take this speech to the streets.”
Martin got so carried away with putting Congress on blast for taking their 5-week vacation and not presenting a jobs plan that he missed something. Obama also took a vacation and told the American people that he would deal with jobs when he gets back.
When you have to beg someone to actually care and take charge, you do nothing but underscore the point that perhaps leadership is not one of Obama’s strong points.
Martin and others out there who are also begging Obama to lead show that they were never interested in the Obama that can “reach across the aisle” and show some compromise. They want a president that will reach across the aisle and ring some necks.
So much for being “presidential”.
True leadership does not require begging to “lead” from the constituents, Roland
