In an flippant outburst Schwarzenegger said that he ‘felt good’ about cutting nine years off the 16-year sentence for Esteban Nuñez, 20, even though it was a favour to his political ally father.
He said he refused to apologise for his actions – and arrogantly mocked anyone who mistakenly believed his motives had been altruistic.
‘I feel good about the decision,’ Schwarzenegger said in his first public comments on the row. I happen to know the kid (Nuñez) really well. I don’t apologise about it.
‘There’s criticism out there. I think it’s just because of our working relationship and all that. It maybe was kind of saying, ‘That’s why he did it.’
‘Well, hello! I mean, of course you help a friend.’
The former governor’s admission is likely to provoke a furious response from the family of victim 22-year-old victim Luis Santos.<---
I lived in Cali when all of this went down and I remember how Nuñez used to rip Schwarzeneger every chance he had on the radio. I mean with extreme prejudice. Schwarzeneger already was on the outs with California conservatives with his spending, but this incident ticked folks off. At the end of the day, the whole left/right thing was all just a show.
