I just don’t understand this one. I didn’t understand when Rush brought it up.
Who really cares about political affiliation in this case?
I mean does it matter?
Law firms shut down because of him. hedge funds closed to redemptions?
Charities lost money?
Pension plans may have been hit?
Government pension plans may have been hit?
One man? Mrs. D.S. doesn’t think so.
And people point out political giving?
Just DAMN….

Who cares? Anybody who is looking for the latest dig on the side they criticize the most. Republicans will spin it one way, Democrats will spin it their way. The sheet tells the COMPLETE story. Both sides benefited from this man.
I mean does it matter?
To me? Naw. That is why I said “Spin it however you wish”. I don’t know Rush’s take on it.
In the end I simply say “follow the money” and go from there.

For some reason I seriously doubt you would have even posted it if there were a majority of (R)’s on that link. Are you referring to yourself with that statement? Everything is not politically motivated or politics related. We have no idea why he gave to who he gave to.

Wizz,
Whenever you are here in SoCal, please look me up. Because I think that what we don’t know about each other can easily get replaced with assumption. Likewise I would love to do the same the next time I am in Chicago, or wherever you are.
Let me tell you my thought process when I first came across Madoff’s contrib. list.
I saw he gave a couple of lump sums to the Democratic party recently. I looked further down the list and saw that he also gave money to Republicans politicians as well. That was all I needed to see to prove once again that politics is driven by money (a point I have been making here for weeks now). I made no big deal of it yet both you and Ed are somehow alluding to the notion that I am (boredom perhaps?). The message “Spin it however you wish” applies to both sides of the table here. While I still consider myself a conservative, I have become completely fed up with the Republican party (especially in these last few months). Politicians on BOTH sides have contributed to this economic mess, and this sheet serves as yet another example of that fact.
Everything is not politically motivated or politics related.
Right! But most things are driven by money. Neither party is above that reality.

My main point I wanted to make was that we have no idea why he donated to those people. Maybe he likes their environmental stance.. Who knows? It seems kinda irrelevant to what he did…
I wouldn’t mind kicking it with you… As long as the discussions mostly stayed away from politics… Which shouldn’t be to hard since I rarely talk politics outside of blogs. But you are right that I probably should not assume that you put up the link just because it was majority Dems on it.
Btw.. Who the hell plays Bid Whist?!? I saw that in one of your earlier comments… If we did hook up the game of choice would have to be Spades!.. That is the default black people card game. And I’ll call out anybody on this site in some spades!

Duane, more point is who the man has made political contributions to is irrelevant. Dude’s actions may take out some pension plans?

I still have to take issue with this one. Money DOES drive policy. For example, Obama went from promising to raise taxes on those making $250k and up, to $200k and up. The latest is that apparently he his shelving the idea (at least until the end of the Bush tax cuts). Obama went from saying that there was no military solution to Iraq, to a 6 month pull out, to an eleven month pull out to a 16 month pull out. Incidentally, he was about even with McCain for contributions coming from military contractors (as of 6/08–before the conventions).
And there is Bush and his promise to be fiscally conservative. Well with one bailout down and another on the table–DESPITE WHAT THE PEOPLE ARE SAYING he is using tax-payer dollars to bail out banks and possibly the auto industry.
For me, now it is all about matching the message with the money. So yeah, I think it is important to point out the political hands in the fire on this issue. Why? Because the same chuckheads on that list will turn around and craft some policy that will continue to go easy on the other ‘Madoff’s’ out there. In the meantime, most political junkies out there will use the information to try to convince others on which party is the cleanest.
