I belive that this is the wrong nominee for a Supreme Court Justice. I have placed some comments about how some hispanics view the USA and it is not in the USA’s best interest.

This lady is a memmer of “The Race” (La Raza) organizaion which is a racist organization. Someone with ties to that organization should be view/review carefully. “The Race” (la Raza) is an organization that promotes dislike against the “white” people or any other race other than hispanics. It started in an university in Santa Barbara to clearly promote specifically the Mexican heritage against the white culture.

Sotomayor is not Mexican but the organization promotes the Mexican culture against the whites hiding behind the so call “latino” culture.

As a hispanic and a women I do strongly belive that judges should review the law as it was meant to be by our Founder Fathers regarless if we are in the year 1800 or 2009. That is what separate us from the rest of the world. We follow the law as it was originally intended even if the population or the demographics is different.

Most other countries move and update their constitution as often as they change laeders. Most conutries do not have a stable, prosperous democracy like our because of our written laws.

This women she is a hispanic first and a women first and an all american third or fourth.

This women will not sympathized with anyone but her own kind and gender.

I I were to pick a so call hispanic person for any political job I will strongly promote a Cuban hispanic due to the fact that they left their country with nothing and understand that goverment is not the solution nor the answer to our problems. The Cubans that came to the USA back during the 50-60′s have not hang ups and they will do what ever is necessary to follow the law and keep the goverment out our live.

I pray that this women do not get pass the nomination.

I usually agree with you but I think where you’re mistaken with you the conclusions and/or statements regarding the police and school districts is that you make the false assumption that the primary reason to place African-Americans in those positions is to somehow rectify the problem those systems are having; however, I believe the primary reason to place African-Americans in those positions is to rectify the initial problem of not allowing or having African-Americans in those positions in the first place. I also believe only after you address the initial problem can you begin working on the underlying problems. It’s not that grades did not improve or people did not still “act a fool” it’s that now there are people in place that can potentially deal with these issue from a generational aspect. I typically agree with you on most things; however, I don’t believe that a few x number of year appointments will really make a difference in changing institutional issues. You have to put people in place and give it some time to work. These issues are generational.

I read that because she voted in favor of the players in the ’94 baseball strike that that makes her well grounded to real world issues or something like that. Well, if she doesn’t get nominated to the Supreme Court then she can always send a resume to Major League Baseball for the next available umpire position. There aren’t any Latina umps in the majors, or women period. Judge, umpire…there’s no difference- nowadays, both ‘call them how they see them’!

I don’t think she the best pick. I think she has nit picking problems and appears to dwell on the petty. It could be that Obama wants to Skittle-ize the SCOTUS. Next thing you know he’ll nominate a dwarf with chronic blood problems that gives their skin a blue tint: Papa Smurf.

The current call for more teachers of color has nothing to do with them being kept out. It centers around the fact that not enough are choosing teaching as a major and are not passing the required exams. Also, there is the belief out there that Black teachers equal students who want to study. In some cases, that has proven to be true, but not generally.

Same can be said of the call for more Black police officers or firemen. Either not enough of them are applying in the first place or not passing the minimum requirements. Another thing, a big reason big reason behind the “recruit Black cops” drive was to prove the theory that the community can “better relate to them” which supposedly will lead to a drop in crime. In all the years we have been doing this, crime has only been going up. At best, this is nothing more than wishful thinking.

Black politicians in Black communities have been present for decades, yet the same problems persist.

Have Blacks historically been kept out of circles of power and influence? Yes. But it doesn’t take generations to run a clean police department. It doesn’t take generations to properly manage public schools. We have moved passed the schoolhouse steps a long time ago and I’m sorry, it doesn’t take long to produce consistent positive results. Will we ever be perfect? Of course not. But relying on color makeup alone will never get us even close.

I don’t want SCOTUS judges making policy. Policy is the rightful domain of legislative and executive.

On the side issue of the belief that black teachers somehow equaling black students who want to study… I recall reading Florence King writing about how after she first saw Roots she had an idealized vision of black children being inspired by the scenes of slaves struggling to learn to read despite the threats against them, but how a renewed black respect for learning never seemed to occur. In fact, popular black culture seems all about being famous and making money via sports or rap music, and black intellectual culture seems bogged down in pursuing political power and revenge against whitey. And it occurs to me that you don’t just need a tradition of respect for scholarly pursuits but you need to constantly update and reinforce that tradition and you also need to promote that tradition outside your own culture to keep it strong, and out of guilt feelings and what for lack of a better term at this time in the morning I’ll call “low self esteem” the descendants of the white, Northern Europeans that founded this nation (and once had that reverence for learning and tradition) haven’t done that — instead they’ve conceded ground every year to whatever barbaric fad disguised as “new,” “authentic,” “ethnic” whatever came along. And right at the forefront of this action has been the education establishment.

I started school in the late Sixties and graduated in 1980, so I’ve been through the entire gamut of what has given rise to the PC culture. But the rot goes way back — Florence King was born in the 30s and she complains often in her essays about the “educationists” and how they made life difficult for anyone who showed evidence of being able to think independently, and were in fact actively against students who didn’t fit into their allotted slots. It’s all, I think, about power and control — people who are preoccupied with status and pleasing others, whether via being good little test-takers who are obsessed with getting good grades, or via singing “daring” lyrics about hos and gangstas and making lots of money — aren’t actually thinking about their lives, they aren’t coming up with boat-rocking ideas, they aren’t a threat to the masters.

And bringing this back to the topic — of course the best judge to promote is one who makes her decisions based on her reproductive organs, skin color, and “experience” (i.e., her resentments of past slights): a judge who makes decisions based on justice is dangerous to the masters, because that judge is outside the masters’ direct control. We can’t have that!

You are completely taking what Judge Sotomayor said out of context. When she said, ““I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life…” She was speaking about racial and sexual discrimination cases and how white men sometimes don’t have the experience to emphathize with those involved in racial and sexual discrimination cases. Later in that same speech she said that white men did emphathize with Brown. Showing that while there are some cases it hurts, with Brown their experience was not a factor.

Also about your point about court of appeals and policy. The Oxford Companion to the Supreme Court of the United States (2005) notes that federal appellate courts do, in fact, have a “policy-making” role,” The courts of appeals have also gained prominence because of the substance of their caseload… the role of the courts of appeals changed as appeals from federal administrative agencies became a larger part of their caseload. Other developments that increased these courts’ policy-making importance…”

In King v. American Airlines Inc., Judge Sotomayor ruled against an African-American couple who claimed they were bumped from a flight because of their race. The judge concluded their case was pre-empted by international law that governs air travel. “We urged a different interpretation, but her decision was in conformity with what other courts were doing,” said Robert Isseks, a New York attorney who represented the plaintiffs. “We were paddling upstream.”

Judge Sotomayor isn’t always a reliable vote for employees. In 1999, she ruled against a black nurse who claimed she had been fired from a New York hospital due to her race and age, as well as a debilitating injury. Judge Sotomayor ruled that the plaintiff, Wendy Norville, could move ahead on her disability claim, but tossed out the race and age claims.

Hispanic as a Brown race is sorry invention. People of Hispanic descent are very diverse are not all the same race. Many people in Spain and Argentina look as White as any other European, while many in the Carribean are mixed with Black. And those in Mexico and Central America are mixed with Indians(mestizo). Don’t they teach people anyhting in schools anymore??

Most people in Argentina are of Italian/European descend. Argentines during the colonial days (Spanish “Conquistadores”)send a general specifically to kill all the natives. If you ever visit Argentina you will see the statue of that general in one of their main plaza.

So, most of Argentines ARE of European descend and no mix with natives Indians. There are also many Jews in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and used to be many in Venezuela before the dictator Hugo Chavez took over. Also countries like Venezuela had in the past many Middle Eastern descend Muslims that…their final goal was to come to the USA (they used Venezuela as a bridge to the USA before the dictator took over). Now, I am told that almost every city is over run by middle Eastern descend and Asians (Chinese immigrants) since Chavez is promising them citizenship and free benefits for their vote.

Venezuela for example also have blacks from Africa since the colonial days and to be honest with you …are very, very good looking people both male and female.

“Hispanic” is NOT a race so, for “La Raza (The Race)” to be created it was a very stupid idea.

“La Raza (The Race)” recruits their people starting in College. They have very strong organizations in many of the America Colleges. It is sad but they know that young students are very easy to recruit….

Please, pay no attention to some of the written comments. As always there are people out there acting out of ignorance or just pure emotions. When you hear the speakers commenting in the video the natural response is bad for either the people in favor or against the speakers. Listen to the speakers of the video. The speakers in the video are the people that matter on this issue. They are the people/leaders gathering all the support behind their misleading cause…”The Race…”

In conclusion here is an organization calling themselves “The Race” being very critical of a group of people because of their “Race”. I think is call “double-standard…”

In conclusion someone in position of power weather they are hired or elected to represent ALL people and to obey by the United States Constitution should have zero association to an organization with ideas and philophies like “La Raza…”, the “Race…”

Whether you are the Major of the City of Los Angeles and/or a candidate Sotomayor for the Supreme Court you should have no business affiliating yourselves with extreme groups such as “La Raza”, the “Race” and expect not to be condemn for it.

Regarding the “The Race” or “La Raza” the leaders of this organization obviously do not know their own history or the history Mexico and/or the West. We could have had the option over 250 years ago in the West which is to speak Russian instead of English or Spanish. It is embarrassing that Judge Sotomayor had never denounced her association to “The Race” organization…
