I really hate to go here because I know it’s going to be taken wrong, but I think she has a slight point but to see it, you have to look at each program the money will go to.

The commentary right now makes it appear that it’s funding of abortion mills only, when, from what I remember, it could be funding of, say, a hospital that provides health services and abortions. This will allow that hospital to get the funding.

With all the manpower and brains in DC, you don’t think they can come up with something where hospitals are getting funding to do what they do OUTSIDE of performing abortions?

How do you do that without lifting the BAN on ALL money going to them, which is what the president did? You are still framing it as if we are directly handing money to perform abortions. We are not. We are funding the hospital and all of their services… And not excluding them just because they also perform abortions. Their is a difference. An lets face it, like it or not, abortions are legal in this country and others.. And MOST people (especially women) support them. It seems a little hypocritical to me for us to demand institutions in other countries not perform abortions or don’t get our support but those same politicians won’t push very hard to ban abortion here. They’ll give anti-abortion stances a little lip service but where’s the action. There will be none because they know it is political suicide.

A) Do all hospitals overseas offer abortions? That is not the case here in the US.

B) In the 8 years Bush was in office, how were those hospitals/clinics able to manage without our money?

C) The non-profit sector has been both setting up and operating hospitals in third-world areas for decades. Hospitals and clinics that do not offer abortions.

Obama and other politicians last year repeatedly said that we are funding terrorism as long as we are dependent on oil from the Middle East. Same analogy applies here.

You believe that abortion is murder. I am almost certain that their is nothing that I can say to you to change your mind about that. But there are whole lot of people who disagree with you and to them lifting this ban is appropriate. So I don’t want to get into a long drawn out debate over this but to quickly address your points:

A) No. But I’m willing to bet there are a lot of people in developing countries who do only have access to one hospital or clinic, many times many miles away. Personally I don’t think we should dictate that those people should have access to abortion services.

B) They probably helped fewer people with fewer services than they otherwise could have if they did have our support.

C) Government humanitarian efforts dwarf non-profits (which come and go).

Your analogy is a little bit of a strain.. But fine, I’ll give you that. However no one is calling for a ban of all spending on mideast oil, even though the money does trickle down to some terrorist activity. That would be insane. So using your analogy is banning the funding of hospitals that perform certain services that you don’t agree with equally insane???…. Hmmmm.

But what about the “whole lot of people…” who agree with me? Starting with the people in these poorer countries who often have stricter restrictions on abortions than the US.

The “fewer services” you are referring to are abortions. In the meantime, America has been pretty consistent providing funding for medical care to treat other medical issues all around the globe. In the meantime, hospitals, clinics and medical care has been provided by the US for decades. If there is a shortage out there, look to other countries. Look to the UN. The fact that we believe that the health of the world will fail unless we build certain hospitals is the epitome of everything the left claims its against regarding the image of the US.

A)That is the case for many poor countries. But again, I seriously doubt that hospitals were not built because of the Mexico City policy. Especially when you consider that both the private and public sector here in America combined has been consistently beating other nations in charitable giving of things like medical supplies and health-related education for decades. As far as “dictating” goes, are you aware that many of these poor countries have much stiffer laws than the US when it comes to abortion?
