M.L. King ally says U.S. holiday an insult

DALLAS, Jan. 21 (UPI) — A Dallas minister who marched with civil rights leader the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., said Monday’s birthday observance holiday is an insult to his legacy.

The Rev. Peter Johnson, 62, director of the Texas operations for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, told The Dallas Morning News the holiday should be on April 4, the anniversary of the date King was assassinated.

“We have ignored the essence of his life and the horror of his death,” said Johnson. “We’ve allowed white America to escape the guilt of his assassination and we’ve allowed black America to drift back into a coma.”

“We remember him with parades and galas and banquets, things that are really irrelevant and silly regarding Dr. King’s legacy,” he said. “If we really want to honor Dr. King, we should do something about people who live under bridges. That would be a great tribute.” (more…)

Instead of pimping King’s life in order to keep White folks in check, how about pushing for an end to all the senseless trend of Black kids killing other Black kids. But alas, that is not as simple as just keeping White folks in a perpetual state of guilt.

MLK life is also being used to justify open borders. Check it out:

Birmingham’s King Day event to spotlight immigration debate

The Associated Press

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The keynote speaker for the Martin Luther King Unity Breakfast on Monday is a Kansas native and the daughter of Mexican immigrants.

Organizers said they chose Janet Murguia, the president and chief executive officer of the National Council of La Raza, because of her message of unity and her opposition to a resurgence of hate speech in the immigration debate.

It’s the first time in more than two decades that the keynote speaker for the Birmingham event is not a white person or a black person.

“We recognize that the immigration system is broken and it requires a serious debate,” she said, “but there’s no room in that debate for hate, and we’re sensing a wave of hate right now that’s not only directed at immigrants, but the Hispanic community.” (more…)

The border system is NOT broken. This is the #1 accusation folks on the open borders side of the debate like to throw around. The problem is that our current government flatly refuses to enforce immigration laws already on the books. As far as invoking MLK in all of this, how about bringing that up in the context of how the Mexican government and other South American countries have been rank with corruption for years–giving poor citizens no other option but to depend on the handouts of another nations.

BTW–The definition of ‘hate speech’ by many of these folks also includes speech that does not support open borders. It has little to do with the usage of racial epithets.
