I know my wife will be FRONT AND CENTER for this one.
Couple of quick questions/thoughts on this topic.
# Do you think this is an unfortunate legacy of the slavery era?
# Hair weaves have been a growing trend in some African countries for years.
Not too long ago a woman from Ghana told my wife that if you follow the both the film industry in Africa and the culture around it, you will see that hair weaves are big business. In fact, this woman was training here in the US to open her own shop back in Ghana.
# Personally, I do not buy into the suggestion that Black women who wear weaves do so because they want to be White. There was a time in history where women did not wear pants or drive cars (that was primarily reserved for men). Now that it is common to see women doing both, does it mean that they are trying to act like men? Another thing, White women wear weaves as well.
# The Chinese have flooded the market with fake “Indian remy” hair.
