Chef Aaron McCargo Jr. Still Rollin’
on September 22nd, 2009 at 10:07 amFrom the continued success of his cooking show “Big Daddy’s House” on Food Network, his incarcerated son, to his dream of opening up his own restaurant on the Canden, NJ waterfront, McCargo opens up in this article.
Hey, Big Daddy (courierpostonline.com)
“‘They shout me out: ‘Hey, Big Daddy,’ or, ‘Hey, Aaron we’re so glad you made it! We knew you could do it!’ ‘ he says. Many fellow South Jersey residents also compliment his young son, who helps his dad as a cute kitchen assistant in some episodes, or they ask for his advice on how to turn a hobby into a career.
This gratifies him immensely, as it’s in his hometown where he hopes to use his fame to make the most social impact. He’s emphatic about resurrecting a version of the restaurant he used to own on Cooper Street in downtown Camden, and he’s already claiming a psychological stake for it on the Waterfront, a scenic swath of the city that he insists will one day emerge as a hotspot for entertainment-seeking visitors and community-seeking residents.
The aim of his restaurant, which he expects to name McCargo’s, after his first dining establishment, is to employ jobless workers from the city and to publicly demonstrate to skeptics that Camden is a municipality with bad press but good people.”
