What still amazes me is that BET didn’t show the James Brown (the Godfather of Soul) funeral but I saw it live on CNN, final cape over his gold casket and all. It doesn’t surprise me that BET would start getting all political because there’s a black president. Why have people turn the channel to watch Mr. Hot Stuff on any other channel when it can be viewed on one’s own network? Makes sense to me, if sensibilities include the corporate bottom line of viewership and advertisement revenue. BET is owned by Viacom, one of the ‘Big 6′ in terms of all media. It’s all about entertaining and amusing the masses.
I saw the title on CBS, “A Presidential News Conference”, and it makes me think, why turn ‘president’ into an adjective to describe the press conference? What exactly does terming the event “presidential” imply? Of course if the president speaking then it’s a presidential event! Just some trick of wordplay that corporate media (i.e. Fox’s chirons)use to enthrall citizens, making things seems more haughty and awesome than in reality. I also noticed how Obama used the flat screen in the area behind reporters instead of the teleprompters to his side.
