Democrats Approve Obama’s Deification: “President Obama” Coins

It is illegal for the U.S. Mint to produce a coin that bears the image of a living person, and the U.S. Postal Service never puts a living person’s picture on its stamps. This taboo probably dates back to the War of Independence, when the Founding Fathers decided that the United States would never exalt an individual, no matter how prominent, in the manner of Roman emperors and European monarchs.
This law does not apply, of course, to private mints that produce commemorative (non-legal-tender) coins, and United States law does not apply to British subjects either. This does not mean that the Democratic Party has to approve the effective deification of its candidate in the manner of a king or a Roman emperor, as one British firm is doing. Windsor, Elizabeth, and Windsor is stamping commemorative coins with Obama’s face, with his jaw protruding in an appropriately heroic pose, in front of the White House.

“Typically you wait until person is dead before you commemorate them on a coin.”

That may be a United States sentiment, but in the U.K. we commemorate the living too.

A clear example would be the wedding of Charles and Diana. A large number of commemorative memorabilia was released depicting their likeness… why? Well, of course, business is business and where there is a market there is an entrepreneur. And, because it is a moment in history to be remembered.

You say “Just Why?” I say, why not?

First we had Barack Obama’s personal Presidential seal, and then Greek columns for a speech in a huge stadium. Now we have commemorative coins with Barry’s face on them, in the manner of Roman emperors and European monarchs. It may be noted that, in the United States, the face of a living person is NEVER printed on a postage stamp or a coin. Nonetheless, the Democratic Party not only failed to protest such an action, it actually welcomed it. This underscores our position that the Obama campaign is nothing more than a personality cult, and a dangerous one, that appeals to the most impressionable and weakest-minded elements of society–the kind with such low self-esteem that it really expects a Messiah to perform miracles and make the world into a paradise.

A company in Birmingham’s [United Kingdom] Jewelery Quarter is making commemorative coins for American presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

…When they got in touch with the Democrats the party jumped at the chance. And the coins have proved such a hit that locally produced versions have already been launched to compete with the UK originals.

The coins show Senator Obama’s face, along with a picture of the White House and the legend “President of the United States of America”.

There is a big difference between a monarchy and someone RUNNING for the presidency of the United States. Big difference.

True.. But, as stated, I was merely giving a clear “example” and not a one-to-one comparison to the leadership perspectives.

In regards to Jon Willan – all I can say is wow.

Hence the American Insurrection. The coin does not seem to represent him being ‘exalted’ but a coin to merely commemorate the historical significance.

I could argue the P.C. perspectives that are way over the top where some folks need to step back and not take things WAY OVER seriously.. it’s a coin. Regardless of what “memorabilia” is released (the bobblehead dolls for one), politically NO camp will ever speak for or against (publically) of any of this. I guess some folks also believe that Elvis is alive because some newspapers print it.

If people buy it – who cares. I mean from what I have read on their website (obamagoldcoins.com) it’s a nice coin.. well made and well received by another artist… but hey.. what’s more strange a coin for $85 or someone paying over $250,000 for a model on the head of a pin? Is this coin really that big of a deal to be screaming “blasphemy!!!!”

Also, other companies jumping on the bandwagon of this Obama coin craze.. are they also doing wrong? Any private company can do whatever they want.. hey “In God We Trust” – not everyone believe in God… so what are we to do?

In ending.. you can’t please all the people all of the time.

And have to say I am more disgusted by this blatent attempt to correlate a simple coin to Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini… that is more offensive than the coin itself.

In one article on the above site, they refer to Obama as “THE JIHAD CANDIDATE”.. I mean come on… again, said it before and say it again… IT’S A COIN. Not even legal tender, a business venture on memorabilia..

And in contradiction to the U.S. law:

I believe they fall under those living posted on coins (from the U.S. mint) and stamps (also printed by the U.S. Postal Service). So there are exceptions… food for thought.

While we are at it.. why not go vent at those U.S. based companies who do this…

Don’t shoot the messenger…. I guess just take the law too literally. The http://www.obamagoldcoins.com is not against U.S. law.. nor is it disrespectful of U.S. law.

It’s a commemorative sculpture that, perhaps, renaming it so would put an end to the “coin” fiasco. But at the end of it all, I believe the use of “coin” is referring to shape and not legal, tender value.

Socialist billionaire George Soros has been backing Obama good on him, so much we will send him also a silver Obama coin..

I wrote a list of things I was grateful for and one of them was the Obama coin because now I can run over “Obama” with my car and not go to jail. Nah, I wouldn’t really do that, but only because I don’t own a car.

It is not about commemoration, these Obama “commemorative” items are about money, making money. Here, in Chicago, newspaper boxes were emptied on the morning after the election. Fifty cents bought a stack of 25 newspapers. These papers were sold for higher amounts, it was not about “remembering” it was about money. The US coins are real coins, electroplated in gold, coins of JFK, with an Obama decal pasted on the front. About commemoration or money? I agree, the UK does a good job of honoring, but the UK does it with real coinage, real stamps.

Obama is traitor and not president of America.

regardless of the U.S rule of commemerating the living, I feel that in life there are always going to be events to change past rules and laws, how do you think times are changed? I don’t think the coins will ever have any significant value but it’s good for those who do not have the means of the rich to be able to acknowlege this historical event in a way special to them. Cooperate America is notorious for selling worthless junk. Atleast this time it’s something that could be sentimental to the consumer.
