ABC News has completely shown their drawers (pronounced “draws” in my house) on this story.

Black Barbie Sold for Less Than White Barbie at Walmart Store
Walmart Says Lower Sales of Ballerina Theresa Barbie Prompted the Price Cut

I’m not going to even post an excerpts because it’s really that absurd. However, I will link to it just so you can see that I am not making this up.

As a parent, I have been shopping toy stores and toy sections now for years for my kids. One of the things I have always noticed is that based on the demographics of the surrounding area, when it comes to dolls some sell better than others. When I lived in California, the White and Hispanic dolls apparently did well in the stores. Why? Because that is what makes up most of the population. Black dolls were oftentimes the ones on the clearance shelf (White and Hispanic dolls make it on the shelf as well). While I saw this as a benefit for us (because I’m getting a huge savings at the register), I always knew that some idiot would actually make this into some barometer on race. Thank you ABC for proving me right. If that wasn’t bad enough, they even had the gall to draw comparisons to the famous doll test given by Kenneth and Mamie Clark back in the late 1930′s to early 1940′s. I mean, really?

Where ABC is showing their drawers on this story is that they chose to exclusively focus on Wal-Mart. Although MSM is filled with ideologues who have no love for Wal-Mart (but apparently they love the millions of dollars Wal-Mart gives to them in advertising), they chose not to mention the fact that the same trends can be seen in just about every toy store and toy section across this nation. Yet to ABC, Wal-Mart is somehow devaluing Black folks by simply abiding by the laws of supply and demand.

Next stop on the Absurd Express, Affirmative Pricing.
