I mean really. The losing team should feel all the shame and embarrassment that comes with losing that bad. They should also make it a point to work harder and do better. Humans are evolving in the wrong direction

Read the comments from the team. That says it all!
What the HECK is going on in America? So, you can’t even play a game anymore? So, after we’re done shaping our young women and men to be broken-wristed and weak- where does that leave us? Where do you think young people learn to fight and compete? In sports! These same athletes may end up fighting in our military and protecting our borders. Meanwhile, Obama is overseas making nice with terrorists. I know I’m reaching here- but the point is: If you want something sweet, go find an ice cream truck, and get a Mr. Softee.

This is pathetic. An APOLOGY for A) being talented and B) for winning? What a sick mentality.

Unfortunately, this is definitely a pervasive attitude in many of the schools I have gone through- i.e, everybody’s special, everybody’s a winner, if someone is better than you they’re doing something wrong, competition is bad, etc. This is one one the worst examples I’ve seen so far, though.

I’m so sickened by this I don’t even know where to start.

Let me get this straight: This coach was fired for winning? Isn’t that what a good coach is supposed to do? Lead his team to victory?? People are being punished for succeeding??? I don’t understand it – it’s completely illogical and turns my stomach. Why is no one focusing on the team that lost? Why is there no shame for playing such a poor game? Shouldn’t they be reviewing the game to fix their mistakes? Learn from their weaknesses? I don’t get it, and I’m raising my children this way.

If you punish success you’ll get less of it. If you subsidize failure, you’ll get more of it.

Whoa!!! I meant “I’m NOT raising my children this way.”

Oops! Mistake fixed!

I’m kind of wondering why it was not mentioned (either in this post or in that news clip) that the team Grimes was coaching against was from a small school that is specifically for special needs kids, and that there are only twenty girls in that entire school and only nine girls on the basketball team?

Several things:

#If in fact they were “special needs” kids, apparently their “needs” did not hinder them from playing basketball against a team that did not have “special needs”. Otherwise, they would not have played in the first place.

#BOTH (I emphasize that word) coaches could have called the game at any point.

#Back in my high school days, our team played against a school with special needs and got our butt kicked just about every time we played them.

#Lastly, let the parent of team that lost address the “special needs” angle.

I am a parent of a Dallas Academy student and am a bit concerned at how the school is being portrayed and whether this whole thing would have been “news” had it not been mentioned that the school “specializes” in these so-called “learning problems.”

The students at Dallas Academy tend to be very bright. They are not “slow” or learning disabled. They will ultimately be competing for the same colleges and jobs as other area students–winning the spots in most cases.

So I’m sorry that there are some in our industry (media) who feel the need to portray this as a big 8,000 pound gorilla school beating up on some poor handicapped kids. Because I can assure you, that’s not what it is.

So, Kyle, Brice, Coach Grimes (Covenant) there’s nothing to forgive nor is there anything to apologize for. It was a game and things go the way they go. Everyone had an opportunity to learn and I can tell you, from personal experience, you can have just as much fun losing a game as you can winning.

What you guys need to worry about is next year!

Folks need to stop making others “victims”, especially when they want to be treated like everyone else.

When WNBA star Lisa Leslie was a senior in high school, for the last game of the year, her perrenially strong team attempted to get her a record for single game scoring. By halftime, she had scored 100 points or something crazy like that, and the opponents hopped on the bus and left, not returning to the floor for the second half.

The bottom line is that the coach should not have lost his job. The way things ebb and flow, teams that are up one year are down the next, and vice versa.
