Yes. The media assumes that you are stupid (and sometimes those assumptions might be on the money)
on April 28th, 2009 at 10:14 amI heard about this in passing yesterday. But I did not read the AP piece until this morning.
NYC Takes Lead in Setting Next Food Target _ Salt
So I’m reading the article and I get to the following excerpt.
Herbert Smith Jr. never paid much attention to how much salt was in food until he developed high blood pressure. His doctor at a Harlem health center put him on medication and told him to exercise and watch his diet.
So the first thing I ask is “What was this man eating for him to develop high blood pressure?” Next excerpt.
The 54-year-old church receptionist said he was alarmed to see how much salt was in the instant soup packages that he liked. He wants the food industry to cut down.
ANY food package that is dehydrated, frozen, freeze dried or canned is going to have a very high sodium content. Why? Because salt preserves food made for extended shelf life. Same goes for sugar.
Now I would give this man a pass for not knowing that bit of science, but the dang information is stamped on the back!!! Apparently, he did not know to simply look. Regardless, the government needs to make it easier.
