The Los Angeles Police Department’s online crime map intended for public use has failed to include about 40% of serious crimes reported in the city, a Times analysis has found.

Among the 19,000 incidents between January 1 and June 13 that do not appear at lapdcrimemaps.org:
* 26 homicides
* 3,798 burglaries
* 10,766 personal or vehicle thefts
* 137 rapes
If this is happening in Los Angeles, you know other cities are playing down their crime numbers as well.
