…In other news, the Black stock market experienced a rally today after the unfortunate news of a Black kid (Oscar Grant) being shot and killed by a BART officer were spread all across the net. Not only was this story covered by news outlets and bloggers all across the country, but was also picked up by media outlets in France, Australia, and the U.K. Now of course you know the news of 952 mostly Black homicide victims in Chicago (between ’07 & ’08), the high homicide rate in cities heavily populated by Blacks, and the growing number of unsolved murder cases in these cities has kept the market down since the Sean Bell incident. But this latest incident has certainly turned things around for the moment.
A writer for The Examiner even posted instructions on how to make the story get national attention (5 Things You Can Do Right Now About the Oscar Grant Shooting).
Back to you.
=====
This is an unfortunate situation that involves the lives of everyone involved–especially the Grant family. Beyond the grainy cell phone video, we cannot make a fair and completely informed assessment as to what went down on that unfortunate day in the Bay Area. The fact that some are already making this into an incident that was fueled by racism without knowing a thing about the cops involved is nuts…and typical.
The lives of ALL OF OUR CHILDREN (born, unborn, one parent, two parents, no parents) are precious. It is unfortunate that in the era of “hope” and “change” that the value of our Black children increases at the hand of White offense.
God have mercy on us all.
