This is why naming things after civil rights icons has always been an iffy thing for me. The argument for doing this has always been that somehow the young folk will be infused with self-esteem and pride every time they stolled down MLK Ave., skipped down Malcolm X Drive, and drove down Abernathy street. I’ve lived in multiple cities through my life and have seen how these street rename initiatives get nasty. Now we have kids beating up city bus drivers at the Rosa Parks Bus Terminal.
There’s no guessing where Rosa Parks would be if she were alive today–
