For some, the days of the Civil war and racial segregation continues to live on. Governor Bob McDonnell proclamation commemorating Confederate history was one example and now we have a new backwards time traveler to add to the pile.

COLUMBUS, Ohio—A trio of Democrats in the race to replace 15th District State Senator Ray Miller of Columbus are confronting the issue of race after the president of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus said the group is doing everything it can to make sure the officeholder is black.

Miller, a Democrat, is black. Candidates Charleta Tavares, a Columbus City Councilmember, and attorney Oyango Snell are black. The third Democrat running, State Representative Dan Stewart of Columbus, is white.

State Representative Sandra Williams of Cleveland leads the OLBC. Earlier this month, she told The Columbus Dispatch, “we are doing all we can, pulling out all stops, to ensure that seat remains black.“

And all that “Black representation” has just done wonders for the city of Cleveland, right?

I have an upcoming podcast that I will upload this week with a local activist in the Cleveland area. Stay tuned.
