Sound the alarm, fire up those chain emails, set up that Facebook boycott group. It’s time to protest something yet again. This time it is about UConn’s decision to rescind their acceptance of child prodigy, Autum Ashante.
This girl is very talented. According to her father, she can speak 3 different languages, she was homeschooled, and at the age of 13 she has already completed high school.
Did I mention that she was a very talented poet? I especially like the pledge she recited in this video.
Personally, I think there is a whole lot more to this story than meets the eye. To accept a student only to rescind that acceptance later and say that she is not academically ready sounds a bit fishy to me. Academics is the first thing they would check. So I think this was a little more than a clerical error.
In the meantime, I am having a hard time understanding why a girl that both wrote and recited the following poem would look to UConn in the first place .
White Nationalism Put U In Bondage
White nationalism is what put you in bondage
Pirate and vampires like Columbus, Morgan, and Darwin
Drank the blood of the sheep, trampled all over them with
Steel, tricks and deceit.
Nothing has changed take a look in our streets
The mis-education of she and Hegro – leaves you on your knee2grow
Black lands taken from your hands, by vampires with no remorse
They took the gold, the wisdom and all of the storytellers
They took the black women, with the black man weak
Made to watch as they changed the paradigm
Of our village
They killed the blind, they killed the lazy, they went
So far as to kill the unborn baby
Yeah White nationalism is what put you in bondage
Pirates and vampires like Columbus, Morgan, and Darwin
They drank the blood of the sheep, trampled all over them with
Steel laden feet, throw in the tricks alcohol and deceit.
Nothing has changed take a look at our streets
If she really feels this way, why then would she side-step HCBUs and do a complete backflip when she gets word that she was accepted by the mostly White school of The University of Connecticut (J.P. Morgan’s birth state)?
So should the public get involved to find out the truth behind Uconn’s decision? By all means. But I sure would love to hear from the father why he opted to steer her to Uconn instead of an HBCU. Will the blog swarm stick around the hear his answer?
