Are HBCU’s still needed?
“In the past 10 years, African- American enrollment at Mississippi’s eight public universities – including the public HBCUs – has gone up more than 32 percent. That’s more than twice the rate of all races combined.
But two-thirds of the minority growth was seen on traditionally white campuses that often offer more name recognition and amenities.
Both the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State campuses have more black students than Alcorn and Valley. They also produce more African-American graduates each year.” (More from “Students defend need for HBCUs.”)
