Look at what they did at AAMU - fire a new president who turned around the school in less than a year. It's a fight for any visionaries to introduce efficiencies into the the HBCU system. Yes, HBCUs are important - there is no disputing the vital role of these long-time institutions, but people cannot remain stuck in 1877, we are in 2007 and living in an integrated 2007 world - i say shape up or ship out because in the end it is the students who suffer. If HBCUs were so great every single HBCU graduate would willingly and consistently contribute as best as they could, but many even prefer not to be associated with schools once they graduate coz it's a real world out there. There're are many excellent professors and administrators in these schools but their good work is undermined by those who prefer status quo. HBCUs are their own worst enemies.
