Here’s your tolerance~
Warren On? Party Off
By Richard Cohen
washingtonpost.comNot that he was planning to attend, but Barack Obama should know that my sister’s inauguration night party — the one for which she was preparing Obama Punch — has been canceled. The notice went out over the weekend, by e-mail and word of mouth, that Obama’s choice of Rick Warren to give the inaugural invocation had simply ruined the party. Warren is anti-gay, and my sister, not to put too fine a point on it, is not. She’s gay. (more…) (h/t: babalu)
* Never mind the fact that Joseph Lowery (who supports supports civil unions for gay couples. Wikipedia also says that he supports gay marriage as well. ) will be delivering the benediction.
* Never mind the fact that there will be a gay marching band featured at the inauguration.
* Never mind that Obama appointed Nancy Sutley as Chair of his Council on Environmental Quality in the White House.
* Never mind the fact that we are getting a President who is more committed to equal rights to gays than his soon to be predecessor.
Yep. Never mind all of that.
Rick Warren is scheduled to give a short prayer and all hell breaks loose.

Black lawmakers irked by Obama’s diverse Cabinet
By Jared Allen
thehill.comSome members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) are disappointed President-elect Obama did not appoint more African-Americans to his Cabinet.
Obama tapped four blacks for Cabinet posts, including Eric Holder. If confirmed, Holder will be the first African-American attorney general. (more…)
Both examples here prove to me one thing–when it is all said and done, tolerance and diversity are code words that set the stage for the next exclusive non-White male group to be the next king of the mountain. While tolerance and diversity signals a sense of equal sharing, make not mistake about it. The group with the largest head count wins this competition.
When D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty selected Michelle A. Rhee to be the head of Washington DC public schools, Fenty got hammered because he selected a non-Black.
D.C. Mayor Fenty: Integrationist or Neo-Uncle Tom?
Out here on the west coast, the former Supt. David L. Brewer III for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) left that post after the board voted to buy out the rest of his contract. When he first came to that post, the buzz around him was all about the fact he was Black and that he had a military background (something that could whip that district into shape). Now this~
African-American leaders see shades of racism in Brewer’s ouster
He is being replaced with a Hispanic (Ramon C. Cortines).
