Money does not create meaningful jobs, demand does. Yet to the CBC, $600 mil for summer jobs is Black gold.
“As any bookerista knows, this is merely money confiscated from taxpayers (not to mention that the gigs are just a couple of months). The government isn’t expanding the job growth pie, but merely taking peoples’ pie slices and moving it elsewhere in the pie tin. Thus, while it will be a patronage program for the CBC, it won’t put a meaningful dent in the 15.8% black unemployment rate. In order to combat unemployment, Black America must focus on the productive engine that drives much of America’s economy and provides jobs: small businesses. Until Black America deploys our combined GDP of close to $1 trillion to organically build up more businesses and have dollars within our communities turning five times or more (and not not turning over less than once before exiting elsewhere, as is currently the case), unemployment will continue to be a challenge for us.” (Shay Riley, BookerRising)
But don’t tell that to some voters out there who will just run with the $600 million for Black jobs” headline.
