Not too long ago I questioned how Obama is going to put 2.5 million people to work by employing them to rebuild bridges, roads, schools etc. when both state and local governments have been begging D.C. for a bailout. For the second time I know of, Gov. Schwarzenegger has made yet another plea for more money for–surprise, surprise– public works projects.

From The San Diego Union-Tribune

SACRAMENTO – A day after declaring a fiscal crisis in California, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will be in Philadelphia today to deliver a face-to-face plea to President-elect Barack Obama for more public-works money to help break the recession’s grip on states.

California has $26 billion in projects – from airports to roads – that are stalled until additional federal funding comes through.

Now here comes the funny part.

While he plans to encourage Obama to release dollars for long-term economic recovery projects, Schwarzenegger also made it clear that he will not be seeking a direct federal bailout to rescue California from its immediate cash crunch.

“I would never ask the federal government to help us before we have straightened out our own fiscal mess,” said Schwarzenegger, who will make a presentation to Obama on behalf of dozens of governors attending the session.

It’s called politics, son.

Here is another thing I noticed. Obama originally said that his plan would CREATE 2.5 million jobs. However as this cnn.com article pointed out, the claim was changed to SAVE or CREATE. Apparently someone took a real good look at the state of the economy.

(CNN) — President-elect Barack Obama offered an outline of his economic recovery plan Saturday, and jobs were the top priority.

American workers will rebuild the nation’s roads and bridges, modernize its schools and create more sources of alternative energy, Obama said in the weekly Democratic address, posted on his Web site.

“The plan will mean 2.5 million more jobs” by 2011, Obama said. His Web site clarified that the plan would “save or create” that many jobs.

What is funny about this is that he could actually “save” 2.49 million jobs while only “creating” .1 jobs and still be in line with his claim. A question that immediately comes to mind is “what percentage of these jobs are government jobs?” It’s a question that demands a straight answer because saving government jobs mean absolutely nothing to the majority of Americans who do not work for the government.
