From day one, all I have been hearing coming out of D.C. is how we Americans must learn to share the load during this recession. Here are the most recent major layoff announcements as of today:

Circuit City – 34,000 (entire workforce)
Caterpillar – 20,000
Pfizer – 19,000
Alcoa 13,500
Sprint Nextel – 8,000
Home Depot – 7,000
Intel – 5-6,000
Eaton – 5,200
Microsoft – 5,000
Boeing – 4,500
Hertz – 4,000

Seems like the private sector (where many of you who are reading this work) is certainly doing its part. I have yet to hear of massive layoffs of this scale happening within Federal and state government.
