Increasing Black Ownership of Beauty Supply Stores
on January 5th, 2012 at 7:50 amAtlanta, GA (January 4, 2012) — Beauty Supply Institute is hosting the 2012 Beauty Supply Entrepreneurship Winter Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 18, 2012.
For the past 2 years, Beauty Supply Institute held the Beauty Supply Entrepreneurship Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Now, it expands the annual conference into Las Vegas, Nevada. The conference has led to multiple black store owners within months of attending, despite not having the capital or direction to open. The conference consists of 6 classes, take-home materials that covers store layout, obtaining funding, selecting a location and more. Classes include “Avoiding Industry Pitfalls”, “Determining Start-Up Costs”, and “Getting Distributor Accounts.” (more…)
This is good, and I am glad to see it. But I really do hope that this workshop places a huge emphasis on CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have a personal stake in this industry and I can tell you first hand that people will not come to you just because you are Black.
Korean families that have taken over this part of the industry may have most of this area on lock. But when it comes to customer service, generally speaking they are very poor.
The other thing I would hope they emphasize is the importance of competitive pricing. There are a lot of factors that play into that (controlling the supply line, location of business, etc.), but this does not matter to the customer.
Here’s to a great start!
