Caribbean job seekers scooping up opportunities
on April 10th, 2009 at 12:19 pmCaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Thurs. April 9, 2009: Clerks and nurses aids comprise a large percentage of Caribbean workers who have migrated to the U.S., according to an analysis of the Census Bureau’s American Community sample Survey.
A New York Times break down of immigrants and the jobs they do reveal that immigrants from the Caribbean largely reported that they worked as nurse aids and in clerical and administrative jobs.
Some 54,200 Cubans said they worked as clerks and administrative staff while 33,400 from the Dominican Republic reported working in the same field; an area of employment that also topped with all foreign born workers living in the U.S.
Jamaicans also reported working most in the admin field, with 39,800 ticking that option as their area of employment on the form. Another 34,900 said they worked as nurses aids, orderlies and attendants. (more…)
