USA Today reported on the recent release of the GAO (Government Accountability Office) and its findings on the effectiveness of the stimulus bill that was signed back in February of this year.

“The report says that as of mid-June, states had received about $29 billion of the estimated $49 billion in stimulus funding they are scheduled to get before the federal budget year ends Sept. 30. More than 90% of the money given to the states so far is for Medicaid and a fund meant to prop up states’ budgets for schools and other basic services such as public safety.

Just last month…

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama said on Monday accelerated stimulus spending would create or save 600,000 jobs over the next 100 days, pledging action to slow the growth of unemployment that has reached a 25-year high.

“We’ve got a long way to go, but I feel like we’ve made great progress,”

How do you improve employment when so far 90% of the money handed out to states so far was spent on Medicaid?

The USA Today article also talks about how states are being pressured by the Feds to spend the money quickly–never mind if it is helping the economy. Just spend the stinkin’ money.

This is really a slow catastrophe unfolding before my eyes.

But I thought it was supposed to create JOBS
