Another “look the other way” moment

From jump on this site, I have been making the case over and over and over again that rushed bailouts and various forms of stimuli of any kind is a bad idea. When Bush did it, it was a bad idea. When Obama continued the panic, I also said it was a bad idea.
What Gets Missed When Cartoons Are on Your Mind
This is Why I Say “Clean the System Out Before Feeding it More Money”
It’s Official: The Stimulus Bill is Cloaked in Black Skin
Watching the Watchmen
CRISIS, CRISIS, CRISIS (Breath), CRISIS, CRISIS, CRISIS
Still Addin’ (with a twist)
There’s plenty of more posts. Just look under “stimulus bill”.
The stimulus bill not only took away welfare reform, but virtually eliminated it and rewards states for enrolling more people to its welfare rolls. Here’s Sen. Harry Reid (D) some years ago concluding that welfare has been a failure.
Interviewer: “Do you think that this 30 year, $5 trillion dollar welfare experiment has been a success?”
Sen. Reid: “No. It has been a failure.”
[...]
Interviewer: “Are there less poor people now that 30 years ago?
Sen. Reid: No. We have a lot more poor people now than we did 30 years ago.
Interviewer: And are there less people dependent on the Federal government now than 30 years ago?
Sen. Reid: A lot more people dependent on the Federal government now than 30 years ago.
[...]
Sen. Reid: …the present welfare laws encourage men getting out of the home. If in fact someone is married, down on their luck,… the law says ‘get out of that house…we are not going to aid at all your wife and children. And that leads to the breakup of the family.
Not only did Reid, his party and its supporters out there push this bill (again, a bill that lifted the restrictions of a ‘failed’ program), but people like Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C. told us that “…opposition to the federal stimulus package by southern GOP governors is “a slap in the face of African-Americans.“ Suddenly, the stimulus bill became a racial issue. Details be damned!
Even Michelle Obama thought that the tax rebate given last year (mind you, THE SAME TYPE OF REBATES HER HUSBAND PUSHED FOR IN THE LATEST STIMULUS BILL–”Obama tells GOP no compromise on tax rebates“) was a joke.
During her talk in Pontiac, Michigan, she waxed on about how the $600 rebate given to taxpayers this year to offer relief to consumers is a bit of a short-term fix.
“You’re getting $600. What can you do with that? Not to be ungrateful or anything. But maybe it pays down a bill, but it doesn’t pay down every bill every month.
“Barack’s approach is that the short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good. And it may even feel good that first month when you get that check. And then you go out and you buy a pair of earrings.” (more…)
But look the other way and make a big deal about the NY Post cartoon in the middle of the Stimulus debate.
Now we learn that buried deep within the stimulus bill was a provision that allowed for the AIG bonuses in the first place. THE SAME STIMULUS BILL SIGNED BY OBAMA.
From yahoo news
WASHINGTON – Cue the outrage.
For months, the Obama administration and members of Congress have known that insurance giant AIG was getting ready to pay huge bonuses while living off government bailouts. It wasn’t until the money was flowing and news was trickling out to the public that official Washington rose up in anger and vowed to yank the money back. (more…)
Where is a good distraction to blog about when you need one?
